A text based narrative game co-written over the course of a single month as a response to a bizarre story prompt.

BUNKER BLUES

(2016)

Bunker Blues is a text-based adventure game created by writer/designer Flan Falacci and I, where you control a bunker-dwelling family's new robot assistant in a particularly surreal situation. In the game, you can talk to other characters and make social choices to influence how life changes for you and your new family.

The project was born out of challenge to create a narrative game out of a pair of randomly-selected genres or themes. Flan and I were tasked with somehow designing a narrative game that combined the "post-apocalyptic" and "sitcom" genres. To solve this challenge we looked to works of surreal dark humor, such as Adult Swim's "Too Many Cooks" short, to create an experience that has both the unsettling aura of post-apocalyptic fiction and the campy hilarity of classic TV sitcoms.

On this project, I...

  • Co-wrote dialogue and descriptive text alongside my collaborator

  • Co-outlined the structure of the game and its different questlines/subplots

  • Co-formulated the story concept in team discussions, listening to my collaborator's ideas while providing my own ideas and feedback
